Chronicles Of A Senior In College
By Khadejah Stegall
You are in your senior year of college and there are some truths that most seniors experience. The idea of being on your own may be exciting, but it’s also scary at the same time. As you complete your last year in college, you may have experienced a couple of these thoughts as a senior.
1. You have senioritis once you become a senior
Before classes started back, you didn’t even go school shopping. You just wished you could walk across the stage and get the year over with. You don’t have many credit hours yet and you want to rush through each semester because you've made it this far and you feel like you deserve your degree immediately.
2. You don’t care about looking nice the first day of class
During freshman year, everyone made sure they went school shopping to have the best clothes to show off. Every girl’s hair was laid for the gawds and every guy had a fresh lineup. As a senior, you may just throw on a hat and sweatpants for class. You aren’t trying to impress anyone because you’ve known these people for three years and there’s no way you are trying to impress any lowerclassmen.
3. You stress out about what’s next after college
Senior year of college can be very scary, but also exciting. You will finally be out in the real world, but bills and student loans will be due and many people are concerned about landing their first job. After graduation, it will be the last time your whole class will be together and it’s bittersweet. As a graduate, it’s important to have faith about what’s to come. Don’t just wait around, but use all your resources and pray for God’s purpose over your life.
4. You think “I wish this” looking back
Although you’re supposed to live life without any regrets, many seniors wish they had done some things differently. Maybe they wish that they would have studied more instead of partying or had more fun instead of working super hard. Regardless, during senior year, you should do everything you never got a chance to do. Maybe you wished you were more involved or attended more campus events. Now is your time to do it before you graduate. Maybe you wish you would have made more of an impact. It’s not too late to pursue anything your last year of college.
5. You forget to keep faith alive
If it gets close to graduation and you don’t have an offer, don’t fret. There is a destination with your name on it so don’t get discouraged. Enjoy the journey and know that there will be bumps along the road. If there is something that you lacked during your time in college, it’s time to observe yourself and what you can do better. Self-awareness is very important and it’s the start of having emotional intelligence.
As your senior year comes to an end, remember to have fun and make it one of the best years of college.
